Welcome to Cake Art Bournemouth

Cake Art Bournemouth started when two friends, both from catering backgrounds, discovered the similarity in their talents.

Anna originally trained in cake decorating at Mary Fords in Southbourne back in 1996. She then went on to further her career by completing courses in bakery, confectionary, hygiene, food preparation and handling and then went on to managment.

Anna has created award winning cakes, one of which was supplied to Harvey Nichols in London who entered it on to the Richard and Judy morning show, where it was chosen in the top six out of the UK.

Alexandra trained for three years at Bournemouth and Poole College.
Kitchen work, pastry and the theory of food were the main subjects she studied while at college. Alex finished College qualifying in Pastry, kitchen studies and receiving a diploma in Culinary Arts.

Alex became an apprentice in a Michelin star restaurant in London for two years. She worked all sections of the kitchen learning key skills along the way. Then Alex went on to work for other restaurants in the heart of London, taking a keen interest in the pastry section while working in these places. Alex was taught chocolate tempering, fine decoration of desserts and sugar work while working with Michelin star pastry chefs.

From there Alex did an intense cake decorating course In London and has been making cakes ever since.

Alex in her spare time has a key interest in food science. This was sparked off by working with head Chef Lloyd Walker who had worked alongside 2 Michelin star head chef John Campbell also a keen food scientist. Alex’s time there challenged her to think widly about flavours and how they scientifically work together while cooking and as you eat them. She takes this even to the ingredients, flavours and the methods that are used to make the cakes. Ensuring the cakes we make are to the highest standards.

After Anna and Alex spending many years training in all different sectors in the catering world, it became very apparent that both enjoyed and excelled in the more artistic side of catering which lead to the decision of opening ‘Cake Art Bournemouth’.
